This photo appeared in the August 1967 issue of the National Geographic. It was taken by staff photographer B. Anthony Stewart for an article by Ethel A. Starbird entitled "From Sword to Scythe in Champlain Country." The location is Charlotte, Vermont, looking west across the valley to Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The farmland closest to the lake in the center of the photo was the site of the proposed nuclear power plant.
